At The Classic Jewellers, we’re captivated by the stories that make love unforgettable, because we genuinely that no two love stories are ever the same. Marcus and Georgia’s journey is one of the unexpected connections that just clicked from the very first conversation and blossomed into spontaneous adventures and a bond that only deepened with each shared moment.
Marcus had a clear vision for Georgia’s ring, and working alongside him to bring it to life was an absolute joy. Every detail, from the design to the stone, reflected the love he felt for her, making the entire process feel that much more meaningful. The proposal itself was like something out of a love story with a song, a surprise, and a moment that was entirely theirs.
It’s been such an honor to be a part of Marcus and Georgia’s journey, and we’re thrilled to share their love story with all our fellow classic lovers.

How did you both meet, and what defining moments in your relationship made you realise they were the one? We’d love to hear both sides of the story!
Marcus:
In a not-so-romantic start to our story, we found each other on a dating app, as many do. We met for a few drinks at The Cremorne Hotel. We just got along so well, like we were old friends. We were yapping over a few gins until the venue closed. Embarrassingly enough, I came to the date with my shirt inside out. Georgia didn’t realise at the time but later thought it was funny. I guess both of our types of obliviousness worked hand in hand with each other.
Early on, my brother had a wedding which was affected by the state borders reopening at the end of COVID. A heap of people missed the wedding, including my dad, due to getting sick. My brother offered, if I was comfortable, to extend an invite to my new girlfriend so she could take someone’s seat, and I thought it was a no-brainer. I felt so comfortable having Georgia as my plus one and wedding buddy. In hindsight, it was slightly unhinged to ask a girl to a wedding of people she barely knew and expect her to get her dress ready within a week. Now I look back and think, “Wow, she must have liked me!” If not before then, that moment would have solidified Georgia being the person for me.
Georgia:
We matched on Hinge (very romantic). I saw a photo of him with a ponytail and playing a guitar and was instantly sold. We talked for a long time before we met in person. Our first date was so easy and lasted for hours, even though I had gone out, bought a new outfit, and spent a couple of hours getting ready, Marcus literally got ready in the dark and wore his shirt inside out.
I ended up taking a day off work the next week so we could go on a second date, mini golf, of course, very out of character for me.
Like Marcus said, I attended his brother’s wedding early on, which was also very out of character for me. When I told my friends, they couldn’t believe it! I think that’s when we all knew we were in this for the long haul.

What traits do you both appreciate most in each other?
Marcus:
Georgia is very caring and will pull me up when I’m down and support me in big and small ways. I love that she is her own person and independent, and despite what life has thrown at her, she’s worked super hard to be the best version of herself. I could say I love her beauty on the inside and out, but the thing I appreciate most is her humour. I often find myself falling victim to an impromptu tap dance, carpool karaoke, or comedy skit, and it brightens my day. We’re always trying to make each other laugh.
Georgia:
Marcus is the most genuinely kind person you will ever meet. He will always see the best in any person or situation, and I have yet to meet someone who doesn’t instantly love him. He is also insanely talented and hardworking. Being with someone who loves what they do and is so good at it is truly inspiring. There is never a day that he doesn’t show how much he loves me. If there is one thing we can do together, it’s laugh. The only thing we disagree on in our relationship is who is funnier!

We’ve heard all about it in store, but tell us again about your romantic proposal that Marcus so thoughtfully planned!
Marcus:
Over the years, I’ve probed into what Georgia’s perfect proposal would look like. Having been a film student and a lover of musical theatre, she naturally loves a bit of drama, but not so much a public display. I’m a musician and a songwriter, so I figured it would come in handy. Rather than writing a song within an hour like I usually do, I spent months and months trying to say everything I wanted to say in a song.
On Georgia’s birthday, I took her to Coriole Winery, one of our favourite spots in McLaren Vale. I arranged for my keyboard and microphone to be set up in the chapel room at Chapel Hill Winery, knowing Georgia loves the aesthetic of a church (and loves a wine). I had some talented friends learn the song as a string trio, a couple of violins and a cello. We were taken to the spot where I sang what I had to sing, and then I popped the question. I probably found it easier to sing than to say any words, but after a brief kneel, she said yes.
We celebrated with a few friends at the winery and later caught up with Georgia’s family for a birthday dinner to celebrate the engagement. I also organised her friends to surprise her at one of our favourite brunch spots “for her birthday,” but Georgia surprised them with a ring on her finger!
Georgia:
Marcus choosing to propose on my birthday was the perfect distraction! I had no idea, we were even half an hour late to the proposal because I was making him take photos of me, and I was taking photos of some other ladies at Coriole!
I have always said that I want my life to be a musical and have always wanted him to write me a song, so the proposal couldn’t have been more perfect. He had organised strings, a photographer, and an original song. If I couldn’t have dreamed up my perfect proposal, it still wouldn’t have been as good as what he did. To be loved is to be known, and that proposal showed he knows me better than I even know myself!

We love how much thought and effort Marcus went into designing your gorgeous engagement ring. Tell us about your experience with The Classic Jewellers and any tips you have for couples searching for their engagement rings.
I entered Classic Jewellers knowing absolutely nothing about rings. I didn’t know how many different types of styles were on offer or what goes into the process. I spent a day in the Adelaide CBD (frantically looking out for Georgia around every corner, who worked in the city at the time) with about seven appointments at various jewellers. As the day went on, I fleshed out some ideas. Some jewellers were great but just didn’t have what I wanted or the means to do so. To my surprise, there were even one or two jewellers that were dismissive and frankly pretentious.
I knew a general idea of what Georgia liked; I had saved pictures and videos from social media of rings she said she liked and didn’t like. Ultimately, I wanted a gold band with a deep forest green stone. Starting my ring shopping, I thought I would simply pick one out from stock on the shelf. However, nothing matched what I thought would suit Georgia best. I didn’t expect to be making a ring at the time, but with the help of the team at The Classic Jewellers, they made our dreams a reality. We fleshed out ideas, what cut of stone I was envisioning and what style of ring. Although my request was unique and they didn’t have any green stones of my description in stock, they were able to come back to me in no time with several stones to view in-store. They were also able to create the ring with a quick turnaround.
The team was incredibly helpful and patient with someone like me who genuinely knew nothing about jewellery. Better yet, they were able to help my vision come to life. They broke down the price of the ring components in plain English and offered competitive pricing for such amazing quality.
My tip would be: don’t be afraid to flesh out your ideas with the team in-store if you know what you’re after. They have a huge catalogue and are able to source jewels, so it’s worth digging a little deeper than just window shopping!
What are you both looking forward to in your new chapter together?
Georgia:
In our next chapter, the first thing we are most excited about is our wedding! We are already having an amazing time planning it and can’t wait for the day. We hope to travel more together, buy a house soon, and look forward to welcoming kids into our little family. I think the thing we are most looking forward to most is knowing that the rest of our chapters will be spent together!
