A Love That Started With Lunch Breaks | Mai and Oscar's Story

A Love That Started With Lunch Breaks | Mai and Oscar's Story

At The Classic Jewellers, we’re always reminded that love doesn’t follow a script, sometimes it begins with a grand gesture, and sometimes it starts with something as simple as a lunch break.

For Mia and Oscar, it was a workplace introduction that quietly turned into something extraordinary. What began as friendly conversations and midday catch-ups soon became the foundation of a relationship built on kindness, admiration, and undeniable chemistry..

Here’s their story in their own words…

How did you both meet, what defining moments in your relationship made you realise that they were the one? We would love to hear both sides of the story!

Mai:

Oscar and I met at work. I remember meeting him for the first time so vividly. He was so handsome and confident! We chatted for a while about work and once he left and I just remember thinking “wow”.

Over a few months we blossomed a really lovely friendship, lots of during-work-lunches that never felt long enough, learning everything there was to learn about another person. Then there was one final lunch where I knew I needed to tell him that I thought he was cute and thankfully, it was well received!

From there it was pretty much all systems go! I knew he was the one from early on. He is the most kind, patient and caring man I have ever met and it wasn’t just with me, he is so genuine with everyone and I fell in love with that. Life with him is the easiest thing in the world, even in chaos!

Oscar:

I met Mia in early February 2025 when I approached her office to introduce myself. From the very beginning, we shared a strong connection, and conversing with her was effortless. It was a truly enjoyable introduction.

I knew she was the one early on, which is why I proposed after less than a year of being in a relationship. I appreciated her family-oriented nature and genuinely enjoyed spending time with her. Before we began our relationship, we frequently met as friends for lunch, and it was honestly the highlight of my day.

What traits do you both appreciate most in each other?

Mia:

Oscar is kind, selfless, driven, encouraging and funny. He has so many passions and hobbies from Toastmasters, squash, golf, his love for his work to name a few. I feel so lucky that amongst all of that, quality time as us is number one.

Oscar:

Mia is deeply family-oriented and has the most compassionate, nurturing nature. I admire her femininity, her beauty, and her sense of humour. She is incredibly enjoyable to be around and every day with her feels fulfilling.

We've heard all about it in store but tell us again about your romantic proposal that Oscar so thoughtfully planned!

Mia:

Oscar will tell this differently because it was a lot more stressful for him! For me, it was like something out of a movie. We were on holiday and we had a private balcony that overlooked beautiful, glassy water. We had organised a chef to cook us a private BBQ on our balcony and in between them setting up and coming back to cook the food, Oscar pulled the most insane ring box I have ever seen out of a bush, got on one knee and asked me if I would marry him. It was a hard yes from me!

Oscar:

I had always intended to propose during our holiday in Thailand, but the specifics of how I would do it were not determined until that very day. We had arranged for a private BBQ on our beach view deck at the Nai Harn resort. Approximately one hour before dinner, the staff began preparing the dining area. Regrettably, I had previously planned where to position my phone to record the proposal, but during their setup, they moved the chair I had designated for the phone holder, so I was forced to improvise. Just before dinner, when the staff went downstairs to fetch the food, I managed to find a new location for the phone. In the midst of the stress of quickly finding an alternative filming method, I completely forgot to consider what I was going to say. When the time came, I became emotional the moment I retrieved the box from the adjacent bush. We were both in tears. It was genuinely remarkable. I have this video solely for our viewing, and I find myself tearing up each time I view it.We love how much thought and effort Oscar went into designing your gorgeous engagement ring.

This is the tattoo Oscar got to commemorate the proposal, the shine symbolises the ring, and the view reflects the location where he proposed.

Tell us about your experience with The Classic Jewellers and any tips you have for couples searching for their engagement rings?

Mia:

You guys were the best! I had given Oscar so many different directions so he could have gone extremely overwhelmed, but he nailed it with your support and guidance. I don’t know what detail you all went into in store, but I do know he suddenly knew a lot about diamonds, settings and gold! So it was very educational and he speaks so highly of your amazing team and the experience overall.

Oscar:

My experience with classic jewellers was, to be honest, flawless. I have no complaints. As soon as I sat down to converse with the team, I realised I would be purchasing the ring from their establishment. From the beginning to the final outcome, Classic jewellers excelled, we eagerly anticipate acquiring our wedding bands here in the future.

Advice for other couples would be to take the time to make the appointment, worst case scenario is that you don’t buy the ring.

What are you both looking forward to in your new chapter together?

Mia

We have a baby due in July and a wedding booked for December which are both huge things, but all in all, I am mostly excited for all the life that happens in-between and beyond, as husband & wife and then Mum & Dad! I feel so incredibly lucky that I get to experience it all with my best friend!

Oscar

Welcoming our newborn in July. New experiences together and continue to grow and develop as a couple. Renovating our home and growing old side by side.
