As lovers of romance and the special moments that shape a lifetime, we are constantly reminded how extraordinary love can be in its own subtle way. Some stories don’t begin with perfect timing or grand gestures, but with chance encounters, missed moments, and paths that somehow keep crossing until the timing feels just right.
It’s always fascinating to witness how two people can move from strangers to something deeply meaningful, often guided by nothing more than instinct and a willingness to take a chance. Brandon and Lucy’s story is a beautiful reflection of this. A series of near encounters, unexpected turns, and moments that could have easily been missed, yet weren’t.
It was a true pleasure working with Brandon to bring Lucy’s engagement ring to life, and here, we share the story of a love that found its way, exactly when it was meant to.
How did you both meet, what defining moments in your relationship made you realise that they were the one? I would love to hear both sides of the story!
Brandon: I met Lucy in our early years of university. One night I was lying in bed, ready to sleep, and I got a text from a group of uni friends to go out. I wasn't going to go, but my instincts told me to get up & go. I’m so glad I did, that night, I met Lucy and she caught my eye instantly. There was a defining moment where she tucked her hair back, time slowed down, everything else faded for a moment. My heart skipped and I was completely drawn to her.
After that, I tried to organise group events in the hopes she would come, just to see her again - but it never quite worked out.
Eventually, months passed, until one day, as I was on my way to meet a potential random Tinder date , I stepped onto an escalator going up, I looked around nearby shops and there she was… Without a second thought, I turned around, ran back down the escalator, and said hi to her. It felt like fate giving me a second chance (I pulled out of the tinder date because of this)
Not long after, we started seeing each other again at mutual events, slowly getting to know one another through group hangouts.
There was a particular event where I recovered from sickness. I had little energy, but there was no way I was going to miss the chance to see her. I gave it everything that event to just make her laugh. Shortly after that night, I asked her out on our first date. The rest is history.

Lucy: I met Brandon after a long week of uni exams when I went out to celebrate with friends over fried chicken and soju. I remember mid bite into my chicken Brandon crashes the table and we exchange hellos for the first time. Over the next few weeks, he filled our group chat with plans - started with bowling, and then came lunches and dinners. But I couldn’t make it… just bad timing. But we crossed paths in the city and then again at a party where we shared an ice cream together. Only later did I learn he’d been recovering from gastro, but he came anyway to see me. He made me laugh the most that night. After that night, I never missed another date again. Honestly, without his unyielding determination, I might never have found my true love.
What traits do you both appreciate most in each other?
Brandon: I appreciate how we can embrace our silliness and feel completely ourselves around each other. I appreciate Lucy’s quiet strength, softened by a heart that is gentle, kind, and full of warmth.
Lucy: My wrinkles will be coming through earlier than expected because of his never ending silliness. But I appreciate this the most. There’s always laughter when I’m with him.

We've heard all about it in store but tell us again about your romantic proposal that Brandon so thoughtfully planned!
Brandon: I had been planning the surprise for months, and honestly, keeping it a secret was the hardest part. I’m terrible at lying.
I knew I wanted to propose somewhere meaningful, so I chose the park where we first became official, a small hill overlooking the Adelaide skyline. I had always imagined proposing there.
I organised a “hidden” photographer… who wasn’t very hidden!! He kept doing laps around the park with multiple cameras around his neck. Lucy, being as switched on as she is, immediately got suspicious.
It didn’t help that I told her to dress up for a “fancy breakfast place” that didn’t even serve coffee. She looked at me and said, “What breakfast place doesn’t serve coffee?”
In reality, I just wanted her to have coffee at home because I was secretly taking her to a surprise picnic. That definitely raised a few eyebrows.
The day was cloudy, with strong winds. The wind was blowing everything around, our picnic setup included, and ants were literally crawling up my pants.
At that point, I thought, okay… showtime.
I got down on one knee, completely nervous because of everything that didn't go according to plan or what I envisioned. I forgot everything I had planned to say, and just asked, “Will you marry me?”
Up until that moment, it felt like everything was working against me, but suddenly, none of it mattered. Everything felt perfectly right in that moment
She said yes.
We went to Magill Estate Restaurant to celebrate and it was the perfect way to end the day.

We love how much thought and effort Brandon went into designing your gorgeous engagement ring, tell us about your experience with The Classic Jewellers and any tips you have for couples searching for their engagement rings?
Brandon: My experience with The Classic Jewellers was amazing from start to finish. I came in with a clear vision for the design I wanted, and Jess immediately understood exactly what I had in mind. She helped bring that vision to life and guided me in crafting the perfect ring. I’m especially grateful for her high standards and attention to detail. The diamond was carefully hand-picked, assessed, and selected with so much care. Throughout the process, Jess went above and beyond, even keeping me updated after hours with progress on the design. When the ring was finally complete, it was everything I had hoped for and more.
What are you both looking forward to in your new chapter together?
We’re looking forward to continuing to experience life together. Wedding, travelling and starting a family in future.
