As lovers of romance and the art of storytelling, we’ve witnessed countless tales that remind us love often finds us when we least expect it. Sometimes, it begins with something as simple as a message, one word, a spark and soon, two hearts start to move in sync. Like a slow-burning flame that grows ever brighter, Jen and Paul's journey unfolded with laughter, resilience, and a bond rooted in genuine connection.
It was an absolute joy to work alongside Paul in creating a ring that captured everything Jen had ever dreamed of, elegant, timeless, and full of meaning. Now, we invite you to step into their story, one that blends modern-day serendipity with heartfelt tradition. From cheeky Instagram DMs to a golden sunset in Phuket, this love story is one for the rom-coms: awkward, honest, and utterly unforgettable.
How did you and your partner meet? What defining moments in your relationship made you realise that they were the one? We’d love to hear both sides of the story!
Jen:
Paul and I started messaging in September 2016. It all began with Paul sliding into my DMs on Instagram with a simple: “Hiiiii.” At the time, I thought it was so cringe that I ignored him for three days. But looking back now, I’m so glad I replied.
We first met at the Adelaide State Library. We were both in Year 12 studying accounting, and I think our shared frustrations over balance sheets really trauma-bonded us. So much so that we both ended up in healthcare instead.
I wouldn’t say there was one single defining moment when I knew we were endgame. I just really enjoy doing life with him. Over the years, we’ve grown up together—navigating adulthood, traveling the world, discovering our shared love for food—and through all the highs and lows, I just knew he was the one I wanted to spend the rest of my life with.
Paul:
Jen and I met through Instagram after I messaged her, hoping she’d respond, but I got ghosted for three days.
After a few weeks of talking, we started seeing each other at the Botanic Gardens and would spend hours chatting about the most random things. Honestly, I fell in love with her first, but I didn’t know how to express it. It took me a long time to build up the courage to ask her to be my girlfriend.
What traits do you both appreciate most in each other?
Jen:
If you’ve met Paul, you’ll know he has a very dry and dark sense of humour, which I absolutely love. He has no filter, and while it’s humbling at times, I appreciate that he never sugarcoats anything. He tells it like it is.
It might sound silly, but I really admire the way Paul “moves through life.” He’s so chill and laid-back, just goes with the flow. As someone who tends to stress out a lot, his calmness balances me out perfectly. He truly takes things as they come.
Paul:
Jen’s best trait is definitely her honesty truly unmatched.
We’ve heard all about it in-store, but tell us again about your romantic proposal that Paul so thoughtfully planned!
Jen:
We travelled to Thailand in October 2024, and I had a strong feeling that’s where he would propose.
We arrived at a beach in Phuket at sunset, where a glowing “MARRY ME” sign and the cutest picnic setup were waiting. I heard rustling in the bushes and genuinely thought I was about to be eaten by some exotic Thai animal. Turns out it was just our photographer trying to catch the moment. It wasn’t over-the-top or extravagant, and it wouldn’t be us without a little awkwardness, but it was perfect in every way. I wouldn’t change a thing.
Paul:
Before the proposal, Jen had been sending me photos of engagement rings for years even before I was ready so I kept a mental note of her style.
After lots of back and forth about the design, diamond clarity, and band colour, I settled on a radiant diamond on a simple gold band. I planned the proposal for a beach in Thailand, and I’m really glad it all came together.

Jen:
I’m so grateful to have been part of the design process. Vy and Jess are both such close friends of mine, which made the whole experience even more special. I knew I wanted something simple and timeless, and with their help, Paul picked the perfect diamond.
I especially loved the option to add a personalised engraving, which gave the ring an extra-special touch. I even got to attend one of the consultations to determine my ring size, so it fit perfectly when Paul proposed. Being involved made it all the more meaningful, and the hardest part was waiting with excitement until the big moment when I could finally wear the ring!
Paul:
The whole process was really easy and straightforward. Jess and Vy guided me from start to finish, and the final ring was exactly what I envisioned. I’m so thankful for their help.
What are you both looking forward to in your new chapter together?
Jen:
Paul and I have just finished building our first home together, and I’m beyond excited for the life we’re creating.
Paul:
To grow a family and travel more!
